Old Dells CAN be powerful!

Hello all! Before I start, let me just start by saying welcome! This is where I'm basically gonna post about technology and coding shenanigans that I get myself into, and not just random snippets of my life whenever I feel like it. Now that I've got this super short and sweet introduction out of the way, lets get to the meat and potatoes of the post!

I'm writing this post today to prove that old Dell computers (especially those in the OptiPlex line) can still be powerful if you set them up properly!

"But Ralzi, how do I set one up properly?"

Well, it's actually really easy!

Simply put: most modern laptops/desktops use a new type of storage technology, known as SSD. These are a significant upgrade from the spinning mechanical hard drives of the last century, and are used more often than not in modern computers today. Putting an SSD into one of these Dells can drastically increase its performance, especially on operating systems past Windows 7. These old Dells also have a sparse but still decent selection of entry level graphics cards, meaning that they can essentially also become gaming and editing machines.

"But why?"

Why not? - These old Dells are sold for dirt cheap on eBay, and that's a good thing! What these sellers do is refurbish them and list them online! Some even come in bundles complete with a keyboard, mouse, monitor, and all of the cables needed to get it going, which is how I got mine! All you'd need to do is install an SSD inside, and you're good to go!

Speaking of SSDs,

Recyclers like taking out the SSDs of computers to be "upcycled", wiped, and sold on eBay for cheap, and once again, that's a good thing because you can get faster and newer storage technology at a bargain price! Take my instance for example: I brought a 128GB SSD to pair up with my HDD that came with my OptiPlex, and not only is it faster, it's also quieter as the HDD isn't being used as much (unless of course you have a lot of startup apps stored on the HDD of course).

So in conclusion,

Old Dells can still be powerful when you set them up correctly. You just need to know how to do it, and you'll have a decent computer for work and play!
